Archadeck of Charlotte Wants to Keep Your Family Out of Harm’s Way With a Safe Deck

For over 30 years, Archadeck of Charlotte has been designing and building decks in the Charlotte area, including North and South Carolina communities. Each summer holiday season, we hear about deck collapses and failures. Don’t let this be your family.

Happy Labor Day! This is the day that we gather outdoors with our family and friends to end the official summer season. The kids are back in school, and the summertime hubbub of activity will begin to slow down to our more regimented school-time schedules. Even though we might be out of the official summertime celebration season, there will still be many opportunities to gather on our decks this late summer and fall, and we want to help keep your family safe.

We Are a Trusted Charlotte Deck Builder. Do You Know if Your Deck Is Safe?

Late yesterday, local news outlets began to report about a deck collapse in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This wood deck was holding 12 people when it failed, and a portion crashed to the ground. Three of those people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but we have all heard reports of failures with much more dire consequences – even fatalities.

Don’t allow your family to fall victim to an aging, unsafe deck!

Aging wood decks and wood deck structures require at least a yearly check-up. Areas of concern are not just visible decking boards. These deck collapses are aided greatly by failing structural support. Over time, wood deck structures will undergo natural degradation, and their safety should be strictly monitored.

Failing elevated decks cause as many as 8,000 injuries in the U.S. yearly.

Over a five-year period, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 20,000 deck and porch failure injuries in the United States. We hear about deck collapses this time of year, because summer holidays – Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day – are times that we gather in larger groups in our outdoor living spaces. Our decks could see upwards of 15 or 20 people at a time – or more. Rotting, failing decks will not hold up to this sort of use, and will fail. If not today, eventually.

Archadeck of Charlotte Can Help You Identify a Potentially Unsafe Deck.

Archadeck uses the following acronym to help homeowners identify possible issues with their own decks – BE SAFER. We recommend checking: B=BOARDS, E=EVERY CONNECTION, S=STRUCTURE, A=ATTACHMENT, F=FOOTINGS, E=EXITS, and R=RAILINGS.
